Leadership

Clinical Care Excellence

Our residents are prepared for leadership and have numerous opportunities to lead during their program. These activities include:

  • Ongoing leadership curriculum

We give residents dedicated time to attend trainings and have sessions on different topics, including leadership styles, definitions of leadership, emotional intelligence, conflict management, mentoring and coaching, change management, and feedback.

  • Resident-as-Teacher (RAT) curriculum

As a 3rd-year resident, the RAT rotator will take the lead in teaching the noon report, do a chalk talk each week on the wards, serve as a junior preceptor in the IM clinic, and lead a journal club. They will assist the chief resident in teaching activities as well as have time to work on a QI project.

  • Presentation at Grand Rounds

  • Leading a quality improvement team and project

  • Serving as a resident representative on the Graduate Medical Education Committee and hospital committees (Patient Safety Committee, Infection Control Committee, etc.)

  • Opportunity to have an elective rotation in Health Policy in partnership with Kaiser Permanente Northern California
