Clinical Care Excellence
The patient-centered medical home
Kaiser Permanente has a unique patient-centered medical home model which uses technologically advanced databases and teamwork with clinical assistants. Combining this model with our progressive use of video visits and technology-enabled specialty consults has earned our health system recognition for top-quality measures in the nation. Our residents learn the best medical practices and are embedded as primary care physicians in the medical home.
Broad age, gender, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity of our patient population
We have excellent training sites for learning to treat adults of all ages, including nursing home and hospice patients. Our patients include those who have Medicare and Medicaid. We also have opportunities to volunteer with community service and local free clinics for the underserved.
Individuals under our care identify as African, Chinese, European, Haitian, Indian, South American, Vietnamese, and more. Patients who are not fluent in English are provided with translation services for their visit.
Partnership between residents and faculty in the continuity clinics, inpatient settings, didactics, and curriculum
We’ve developed strong relationships with all our specialty clinics for rotations, ongoing support, and consultations. We have frequent one-on-one precepting with faculty to enhance clinical skills, and offer communication skills workshops to optimize the doctor-patient relationship.
