Inpatient medicine wards at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring

  • Sign-in at 6:30 a.m.; sign-out at 6 p.m.

ICU rotation at Holy Cross Hospital Silver Spring

  • Fascinating ICU cases, many procedural opportunities
  • State-of-the-art ICU with 46 beds
  • Daily teaching rounds with critical care specialists
  • One attending plus two interns per teaching team
  • No overnight call, workday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with one day off in seven

Continuity clinic weeks at Internal Medicine Gaithersburg

  • Each resident completes four 2-week blocks of continuity clinic per academic year at the Gaithersburg Medical Center.
  • Each resident serves as the primary care physician for a panel of patients throughout the 3 years of residency.
  • The continuity clinic includes elective time in dermatology, gynecology, psychiatry, complex care, addiction medicine, orthopedics, ophthalmology, ENT, and allergy.
  • The underserved medicine rotation is a valuable experience embedded into this outpatient rotation.
  • Golden weekends occur during all clinic weeks.

Specialty weeks

  • During specialty weeks, the core internal medicine specialty rotations are all included, with a balance of outpatient specialty care and inpatient specialty consultations. ​ ​
  • During specialty rotations, residents return for one half-day per week of continuity clinic to maintain care for their primary panel patients.
  • Protected time for Noon Report and Academic Half Day is maintained; case discussions are coordinated with the specialties residents are rotating in during that time to optimize learning.
